Self-publishing
The reason most people give for not wanting to self-publish is that they are either afraid of, or don’t have the time to market themselves. What traditional publishers don’t tell you is that you will do most of the marketing anyway. If you really want your book to be a success, you will have to run with both self- promotion and promoting your book. Going the traditional publishing route, the publisher will take most of the profits, going the self-publishing route - you will! The amount of work you will do will be almost equal. This is why most literary agents and publishers will not look at your manuscript unless you already have a large following due to a successful blog or radio show or some specialization that you have in your particular field. They know that for them to make money, you must be a pro at getting yourself and your work out into the world.
Now I’m not going to lie to you, this does take time, effort, dedication, perseverance, and yes, a bit of cash – but if you really believe in your story and know in your heart that it is meant for this world, then nothing can stop you. I understand that people writing spiritual books for children most likely have a child or two that they are caring for, as well as a full time job and all the other chores and tasks that any parent faces; time is probably not on your side. However, as someone once said: “If it is important to you, you will find a way. If it is not, you will find an excuse.”
